Did you know soccer is the most popular sport in the whole world?
Imagine how many people play soccer!
Did you also know that the highest score ever in a soccer game is
149-0!!! WOW that means you would need to score atleast every 20 seconds!
To become a good soccer player you can't just have the skill, you also need to know the rules!
There are many rules in the game of soccer such as, no pushing with your hands or elbows,
no using your hands unless a throw in or your a goal keeper and more that I will be
explaining to you.
A referee is a major part of a professinal soccer game. A referee makes all the calls in the
game. For example if there is a hand ball it is the referees responsibility to blow his whistle.
HANDBALL- A handball is one of the biggest rules in soccer. It is when a player on the field except for
the goalie, touches the ball with their hands during the play.
PHYSICAL CONTACT- Physical contact is also very important to know. It can only be made with your shoulders.
If the referee sees any pushing and shoving with your hands or elbows than a call would be made right away.
Maybe even a yellow or red card.
SOCCER BALL- You need to also know the proper soccer ball you should be playing with. If you are
12 years or older you size of the ball you will be using will be size 5.
PLAYERS ON THE FIELD- If you are playing on a full size field, than the number of players you will need will
be 22 players in total with both teams.
OFFSIDE- Offsides occurs when a player is attacking and a ball is played to them and they are closer to the
net than the opposing team.
BALL GOING OUT OF PLAY- When the ball gets kicked out on the sidelines it is a throw in. When the ball gets
kicked out behind the goal it is either a corner kick or a goal kick. To determine whos ball it is you watch
what team kicked it out and than it is the opposite team's ball.
FREE KICKS AND PENALTY KICKS- Free kicks or penatly kicks are given when the opposite team makes a foul or
hand ball.
Yellow and red cards can be given for many different reasons. They can be given if you swear or backtalk
to the referees and players. Also they can be given if you don't follow the rules of the game. But the
most common way to get a card is if you commit to a brutal foul.
A red card means your ejected out of the game that your playing, as well as the next game.
A yellow card means if you get two yellow cards in one game your ejected out of the game.
Now that you know all the basic rules of a soccer game, go ahead and play soccer and have fun!!!!
