There are many kinds of mountain bikes, ranging from
cross-country to downhill. I'll go over their
differences and disciplines.
The first bike that i will go over in the downhil bike, the are easily
identifiable by their massive front fork. (what holds on the front wheel)
These forks have anywhere from 200 to 220mm of travel. Another thing
that distinguishes these bikes from others are the huge rotors that provide
insane stopping power. You can stop on a dime! These bikes often run 650b (27.5) or 29 inch wheels.
these wheels carry speed better than 26 inch wheels. They also have coiled
rear shocks, which are sturdier and less prone to bottoming out than air shocks,
and provide more stability at speeds, pro racers like Greg Minaar and Aaron Gwin can reach speeds of 60 kph!
The next bike is the enduro bike, these are designed to do it all, from grueling
climbs to rowdy descents, these bike are battle ready.
These bikes have less travel than a downhill bike, but more than an xc bike,
around 160-170mm. These bikes have capable drivetrains often 1x11 or 1x12 ranging from 11-42 teeth
to 10-45 teeth to allow you to climb with ease. These bikes have dropper posts, droppers allow you to raise
or lower the seat through a lever on the handlebars. These bikes often have 27.5 inch wheels.
