West Ham's History
West Ham United are a soccer team based in London, England, more specifically, in Stratford in East London. They play in the Premier League, the top division of English soccer. They were formed in 1895, originally known as Thames Ironworks but were renamed as West Ham United F.C. Their nicknames are "West Ham", "The Hammers" and "The Irons". Ever since the club was renamed, their colours have always been claret and blue. The stadium that West Ham used for the majority of their history was the Boleyn Ground, or Upton Park. In 2016, they relocated to the London Stadium, which was the stadium used for the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
West Ham currently have 3 separate spells in the Premier League, with a total of 22 seasons. West Ham last got relegated from the Premier League in the 2010/11 season by finishing last of 20 teams. The next season the the Championship, the Hammers finished in the number 3 spot, earning them a promotion back to the Premier League. They have been in the top tier since as of the 2018/19 season. One very important and recent event in The Irons' history was in the 2017/18 season, when they were playing very poorly. After a 4-1 loss to Liverpool F.C., the then manager Slaven Bilic was fired. They then appointed Scot David Moyes, who helped save West Ham from relegation. But on March 10th, 2018, West Ham had a home game against Burnley F.C. On that day, there were lots of fans with big signs in the seats complaining about the board and its members because they gave promises but never delivered them, giving all the players, staff and supporters a false hope. The Hammers were holding their own against Burnley but they let a couple of goals in later in the game, and that was when the supporters had had enough. There were multiple pitch invasions, with one man taking the corner flag and planting it in the middle of the field and then getting caught by the guards and stewards, and another protesting supporter getting tackled by Mark Noble, the West Ham captain, who had been at the club since the age of 13.
Other protesters threw coins and other objects at the board in their seats, forcing the board members to leave the stadium. The whole time, West Ham fans were chanting things like "We're not West Ham anymore!" and "Sack the board!". As these acts went on, the game was still continuing, only stopping when there were pitch invaders. The final score was 3-0 to Burnley.
