In ancient times the island was called "Pora pora mai te pora", meaning
"created by the gods" in the local Tahitian dialect. This was
often abbreviated Pora Pora meaning simply "first born".
Because of ambiguities in the phonemes of the Tahitian language,
this could also be pronounced Bola Bola or Bora Bora.
A TASTE OF PARADISE
Both Tahiti and Bora Bora have a tantalizing array of
eateries, both fine dining and low-key, to tempt you away
from the state-of-the-art kitchen in your Luxury Retreats
villa. In Bora Bora, Bloody Marys, a beachside restaurant,
has been serving charbroiled seafood, caught fresh that
day by local fishermen, since 1979. La Villa Mahana,
crowned the islands most romantic restaurant, serves
Polynesian-French cuisine, such as curried Mahi-Mahi.
In Tahiti, many head to the Lotus Restaurant, in the
Intercontinental Tahiti Resort, for its amazing
ocean views and classic Polynesian dishes.
Flying to Bora Bora from Vancouver is not a short plane ride.
In fact the plane ride is actually 16 hours 50 minute duration and
2+ stops. But if that's what it takes to get to Paradise, I think
most people would take the chance! If you want to book a flight then...
