The Type 99 or ZTZ99 is a Chinese third generation main battle tank (MBT). The vehicle was a replacement for the aging Type 88
introduced in the late 1980s. The Type 99 MBT was China's first mass-produced third generation main battle tank and features numerous
improvements in firepower, protection and mobility over previous Chinese tanks that bring the vehicle to a comparable
standard with modern main battle tanks of other nations. Featuring heavy usage of modern composite armour in its protection,
a 125 mm smoothbore gun as well as a 1500 hp diesel engine, the Type 99 is well armed, protected and highly mobile.
