Big mountain skiing

Hey are you going through the internet trying to figre out the deffintion of big moutain free skiing, well your in luck. I am Caleb mcfarlane i compete in big moutain freeski competions, I have benn since the age of two and been competing for 4 years. i like to say that i would know a fair share about skiing and competing.

What is free ride? Free ride is a type of skiing you ski challanging terrain, you are trying to ski with controll, fluitity, engery&style;,line choice and techneqiue. Free ride could also be just skiing where ever you want to the of your ability, and having FUN!!!.You can also ski with friends and family whenever and it coud be considered free skiing.

Judging In competitionhere are in between 3-8 judges at one event, depending on if it is a national or regional competition. The head judge Jeff Holden runs most competitions in Canada, The judging criteria. Starting off with technique, the judges are look for super techincal skiing meaning hands out in fron knees bent but yet skiing fast and agressivly, control meaning skiing fast but have turns and managing your speed for you could do a feature and land. energy&style;, engery& style meaning you do a lot of features(cliffs or jumps). Fluitity, judges are looking for you to ski the run with out stops or pauses or there will be decuction in your score, i beleive that control is most important because in your out of control so that means you have to much speed so your technquie is bad beacuse if your going fast its hard to have control. Then if you try to hit a feature you will either go way to far or get thrown off balance.

Age catagories There are three age catagories in jr IFSA, the youngest catagories is 7-11 boys then 7-11 girls this is propbaly the least competitive, because they are the youngest. Then 12-14 which i compete in, this catagorie is agrubly the most competitive catagorie. Finally the oldest catagorie 15-18 this group dose the biggest features and stronest so the can ski stronger then the younger catagories. I think the 7-11 are least competitive because they are less competitive because of lack of experince, the older catagories have more expircance so they have less butterflies.

My experience
s I have been competing for just over 4 years in IFSA, but i have been skiing since the age of 2 i have also skied in ontario and all of BC and Alberta. my first competion in 2015 was White water ski resort, Nelson, BC, That competion did not go as planned as i broke 3 bones and a strained MCL. My next competition was in Revelstoke,BC taht was a way better competition for me. Revelstoke was the first competition i qualified in i finish 9th in qualifiers and finshed 7th moving up 2 spots in finals. the next year i did the same two competions White Water and Revelstoke and i qualified in both competions finishing 11th in White Water and Revelstoke i finished 8th. a was very happy with how i did this season and was excited to keep competing. Then came last year, This pat season was very tough for me in my first natioal competition i had a fairly bad crash and hurt my back and ribs this defintaly rattled me, then in white water i had a very soiled run until the very end after my last jump i landed my ski popped off indicating i had fallin. Then comes The Big White competion, i was very exicted to compete in my home hills first competition but yet again i fialed and did not qualify, fruasterated i went off and i tried to 360 a gap but my edge caught this lead to a sound like something was tearing and then a shout in pain. That sound was my calf tearing and that lead to crutches and not skiing for two weeks . Then came revelstoke this competition i have always had sucsses in yet again i qualified in 8th and finished 6th 1 spot off the poduime. 2017-2018 season was not the best season for me, but this fueled into fire power for me the upcoming season, i trained and was prepairing to find sucsses. the first competition was a national at RED moutain this is one of the biggest copetitions in North america and i qualified in 16 and finished 13, I also have a competition in kicking horse, Lake Louise and revlestoke. i am very exicted and hoping to ame it to Norams which is the biggest comptition the north america and only the top 50 kids from every catagorie. This season i also have a full sponsership with K2 one of the biggest ski companies in the world.
