Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on August 8th 1998 in Toronto, Ontario to Karen Mendes and Manuel Mendes. Although he was born in Toronto, he grew up in a surban town in Ontario called Pickering. He has a younger sister called Aaliyah Mendes who was born on September 15th 2003, making her 15 years old. His mother is British and his father is Portuguese; Karen works as a real estate agent meanwhile Manny is a bussiness man who sells bar and restaurant supplies. Shawn graduated at Pine Ridge Secondary School in June of 2016. He enjoyed playing hockey and writing his own songs. He loves Harry Potter and his favourite foods are muffins and chocolate cake.
Shawn has 6 tattoos on his body, each tattoo symbolising something and having a meaning to him. His first tattoo is a guitar on his arm with the toronto skyline and trees in the woods reflecting in the water. The neck of the guitar is a soundwave of his parents and sister saying I love you. His second tattoo is on his bicep and it�s of a lightbulb with his mother�s favourite flowers inside, he got it done for his second album. He also has 2 tattoos on his fingers, one on each middle finger. The 8 tattoo on his left hand middle finger symbolizes his birthday and birth month. His favourite animal is a elephant so him and his mom got twinning elephant tattoos on their right hand middle fingers. He also has a tattoo of a swallow bird on the back of his hand, normally people would get them tattooed on themselves so the swallows will carry their soul to heaven. The most recent tattoo he has gotten done is an illusion type of tattoo on his right arm wrist. You can either see a boat on the water with a sun/moon above or a stick man meditating. It symbolises peacefulness to him as he is someone who struggles with anxiety, hence his hit song "In My Blood".
Shawn loves giving back to the world, he has already done several charity events throughout his career. At the start of his career in 2014, he worked with Dosomething.org and launched their campaign called "Notes For Shawn". It addressed low self-esteem, depression, and awareness of self-harm. It's where they would encourage fans around the world to write and leave positive, encouraging notes for friends and strangers. They relaunched their campaign in 2015 and 2016 as well. He has also worked with Pencils Of Promise, raising $25,000 to build a school in Ghana. The most recent charity he has been involved in is when an earthquake struck Mexico in September 2017. He teamed up with The American Red Cross and created the Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund. It was a website where you could donate money to the people who were affected by the earthquake. He personally donated $100,000 himself towards relief efforts!
Shawn has a huge fan base made up of fans from all over the world- He also has quite the followers on social media! His fans are reffered to the "Mendes Army". He has a total of 39.8M followers on Instagram and 20.8M on Twitter. But that is probably not the case as one is reading this. He also has an app, twitter account, and instagram account specifically for his fans called "ShawnAccess". It basically updates fans on Shawn's performances, tour dates, new merch, and other important announcements! He is currently the 44th most followed person on Instagram.
