Hitori Kaburenbo (One Man Hide and Seek)

One Man Hide and Seek (hitori kaburenbo, also known as Lonely Hide and Seek, Hide and Seek Alone, One Man Tag) is one of the most popular rituals in Japan and Korea. Some western cultures have taken large interest in it as well.
It's a ritual for contacting the dead. The spirits which are wandering restless on the earth are always looking for bodies ot possess. In this ritual you summon usch a spirit by offering it a doll instead of a human body.
Warning: if you have psychic abilities or spiritually involved, you may feel unwell or be prone to accidents during the ritual.
【Things you'll need】
・A stuffed doll with limbs. DO NOT USE A HUMAN DOLL OR A DOLL YOU HAVE AN EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT TO / REALLY LIKE, OR THERE WILL BE A GREAT CHANCE THAT THE SPIRIT WILL NOT LEAVE THE DOLL.
・Rice (enough to stuff the doll full)
・A needle and a crimson thread (symbolizes blood and acts of restraint)
・A sharp-edged tool (such as a knife, glass shard, or scissors)
・A cupful of salt (natural salt is most effective, as usual) or alcohol. This will be used to get rid of the spirit and end the ritual.
・Something from your body (Fingernails are most commonly used, but some use their own blood, skin, hair, etc. Don't use someone else's body parts or else it becomes a curse)
・A hiding spot (preferable a room purified by incense and o-fuda
【Preparation】
1. Take all the cotton (or whatever it's stuffed with) out of the doll, and stuff it instead with rice*.
2. Put whatever thing you took from your body and put it inside the doll. Some say it's a curse to use anything apart from your fingernails, but it's okay, I hope you're not considering this ritual anyhow. Sew up the opening with the red thread. When you finish sewing, tie up the doll with the rest of the thread**.
3. Pour water into a bathtub (or basin, that works too).
4. Place a cup of salt water inside the hiding place.
【How to do It】
1. Give a name to the doll***2. When it's 3 am (when dark energy and spirits are most active), say to the doll, "(your name) is the first to be it" three times
3. Go to the bathroom and put the doll into the water-filled bathtub.
4. Turn off all lights in the house, go back to the hiding place and switch on the TV.
5. When you have counted to ten with your eyes closed, go back to the bathroom with the edged tool in your hand.
6. When you get there, say to the doll, "I have found you, (doll's name)" and stab the doll with the edged tool****.
7. Say, "You are the next it, (doll's name)," as you put the doll back in it's place.
8. As soon as you have put the doll down, run back to the hiding place and hide.
【Ending the Ritual】
1. Pour half the cup of salt water into your mouth (Don't drink it; keep it there)***** and get out of the hiding place and start looking for the doll. The doll might not be in the bathroom. Whatever happens, don't spit out the salt water.
2. When you find the doll, pour the rest of the salt water which is left in the cup over it, and then spray the salt water in your mouth over it as well.
3. Say, "I win," three times.
This should end the ritual. If not, you screwed up.
After this make sure you dry the doll, burn it, and discard it later.
REALLY IMPORTANT
DO NOT STOP THIS RITUAL HALFWAY. You must do it through to the end.
【Important Things to Keep in Mind】
・Don't go out of the house until you have finished the ritual. After two hours, the spirit in the doll will be too strong to be removed.
・You must turn off all lights
・When hiding, STAY SILENT
・You don't need to put the salt water in your mouth all the time. You only need to do it during the finishing ritual.
・Don't continue this ritual for more than one or two hours. After two hours, the spirit will be too strong to remove from the doll.
・When running away, DO NOT LOOK BACK.
・Don't fall asleep while playing. The doll might stab you.
・If discovered by the doll, you can get a small wound or even get possessed. Be careful, your weapon will be somewhere on the floor.
・After the game is over, it's important to clean up properly. Be sure to put salt in every corner of the house, especially places where you put the doll and where you found it.
・People who have played have reported some of the following events that usually take place during the ritual:
・Tv changing channels on its own, perfectly normal lights flickering, doors opening and closing, hearing the sound of laughter.
・For safety reasons, it might be best to keep all doors in the house unlocked (including your front door) and have some friends close by so that they can come and help you at moment's notice if you ever need them. Keeping a mobile close at hand would be a good idea too.

* - The rice represents innards and also has the role of attracting spirits.
** - The crimson thread represents a blood vessel. If seals the spirit up inside the doll.
*** - Giving the spirit a name is the most powerful thing a human can give. Names give spirits great power.
**** - Reminder that the doll will stab you in the exact same way you stabbed it.
***** - If you go out of your hiding place without salt water, you might encounter "Something wandering around" in your house, which might harm you in some way. Apparently, the way to feel the presence of the "Something wandering around" is to watch what happens to the TV.
Most say this ritual works, a few say it doesn't. Some who say they'll try never came back to post the results. It's unknown what happened, but good luck and stay safe!
